I began working on this video after I saw game devs sharing clips of Tears of the Kingdom online. They seemed shocked at what the game’s physics could allow, and I knew there would be a good story here if someone more educated than me could tell me what they were seeing.
The result is a video that discusses the game’s physics, but also touches on the real miracle behind them: the stability and longevity of the team that made this game. A lot of game developers, especially in the United States, rely on contract workers whose time working on a game often runs out before the game ships. The result is churn, burnout, and also a lack of senior knowledge in stable positions in the industry. It makes game development worse. Tears of the Kingdom, which was made by an experienced team over the course of years, shows us what we lose by prizing profit at the cost of stability.
